Nick is a leader because he never gives up. He has no arms and no legs and is still so positive towards other people.
1. Be proactive - Rather then feeling sorry for himself he uses that time to inspire others, and stay positive. He could have chosen to be sad and stop trying but he never gives up until he accomplishes his goal. He recognizes what he can't control but knows he can control whether he gets back up again.
2. Begin with the end in mind - He knew he wanted to walk and do things just as other people can so that's what he did. He learned how to do stuff his own way, he learned what works for him.
3. Put first things first - He got the things done that he wanted to get done.
4. Think win-win - Instead of just getting the stuff done he wanted to he went on to the next level and talked to other people. He encouraged other people to never give up by sharing his story. It would take a lot of courage to get up and share that story with everyone but he did it to inspire others.
5. Seek first to understand, then be understood - He would've had to use this a lot for communication while growing up. When learning things you have to try to understand the teacher first, then it's your turn to ask questions.
6. Synergize - He worked together with the kids at schools to learn better communication and other stories. He also worked with others to learn how to get up and how to make his story more inspirational.
7. Sharpen the saw - He stays fit and healthy so he can deal with whatever comes his way.

#17 Society
When a barrier is put up in the way of your plan, some people will find new ways to break down that barrier. These people are the leaders, they would have continued walking up the escalator stairs rather then not opening there mind to the other options they have. Some people are closed off and put there mind to one plan and stick with that plan until it fails. When it fails they give up and look for others to solve their problems. Motivated people need to motivate the unmotivated by talking to them. Do exercises such as word maps, jotting ideas down, and play games to help get them motivated. Some people are auditory learners where others are visual or tactile. If you can come up with activities to get all different learning styles involved then everyone will become more involved. Afterwards have a group discussion so they can hear other people's ideas that maybe they can input on or share theirs as well. Try your best to include everyone's ideas. If you shut ideas out then that could be the reason why they are so close minded. They may think that out of the three ideas they had only one will work because the other ideas got shut down.

How I'd Like To Change The World
Since my mom, grandma and I couldn't find any shelters, or soup kitchens to help out with on Christmas I decided to do this instead.
1. I would like to have a wall somewhere in the school, either black chalkboard paint or even just a big poster saying "I Will Stop Bullying By..." It'd be great if everyone in the class and people in the school wrote on it what they're going to do to bring the school together and stop bullying - and actually followed through with it! School should be somewhere safe that students want to attend. Students should be able to talk to people at school about problems they're having at home rather then want to go home because they feel they don't fit in or they're getting bullied.
2. After challenge day, when our class had our discussion with Miss. Painter it was a big eye opener. I know what it feels like to be left out and I actually felt included that day. I wish everyday was like that. I want people to realize that their actions and words can hurt. I was bullied through public school and it doesn't bug me that much because I stuck up for myself and found better friends but some people don't have the strength to do that. When I heard all the people in our class that suffered from depression, got bullied, some that tried to harm themselves I realized that most of that is from the way they're being treated by other people. We're just kids still, we have a lot to deal with already and are told "oh just wait until you get into the real world." Not everyone realizes that in this day and age, kids have a lot more challenges and stresses then they did 20 years ago. I want our high school to be a place that people love, and still have friends from when they're 40. The day that we all decorated the cafeteria and everyone in our class sat down and ate together, that was awesome. I talked and sat with people that I wouldn't usually sit with. I think everyone felt included that day and I guess that's what I'm trying to do by making this wall. Unlike challenge day and the decorating of the cafeteria I think that this wall could last for more then a few hours or a day. That's the problem with the things we do. They bring people together for one day but then the next we're all back to sitting and talking with our own groups.
3. I'd like to do this when everyone gets back from the holidays. It could easily be done whether we make a poster or paint a wall. I'll have to talk to Mr. Cook and see what he thinks is a good idea.
4. I just need help from our class. I want everyone to be real. Write on the wall a bullying experience they've had, a time they've felt left out, what they're going to do to stop bullying or make the school a better place. I think announcements would help to get it going and get more people writing on the wall. Also if teachers could write on the wall then students may be more likely to write on it.
